I have been an independent consultant providing service to the pulp and paper industry for more than thirty years. I have experience in the areas of chemical recovery and alternative fuels including: recovery boilers, recausticizing, lime reburning kilns, black liquor, NCG, SOG, turpentine, methanol, ethanol, wood waste, powdered wood, coal, coke, soap, tall oil, fatty acid/amino acid based fuels, and low and medium-Btu fuel gases.
My areas of expertise cover capacity improvements, efficiency improvements, and environmental compliance. My experience includes extensive mill visits in North America, Scandinavia, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
I have provided mills with assistance in auditing, troubleshooting and proposal review, as well as given scores of mill presentations, dozens of operator training seminars, and direct on-site management and participation in many mill trials and retrofit programs.
I have authored two books, chapters in several other books, and over seventy papers in the area of chemical recovery and alternative fuels. I have been an invited speaker at national and international meetings. For over twenty years I have taught the fundamentals of lime kilns, recovery boilers, and evaporators at the TAPPI Kraft Recovery Shortcourse.
